How to Get Out of a Money Rut

If you follow the news, you’ve been told that the economy is not in a good way at the moment. Inflation is high and economic forecasts are uncertain. We’ve entered uncharted territory.

This brings out a lot of FEAR in people. This fear can lead to a downward spiral of emotions and quickly turn into financial depression.

It can feel like there’s no way out.

And so, I’ve been asked a lot lately…

What can you do when you’re feeling anxious, despondent, or resentful about money?

First things first, you’re only human. It’s perfectly human to have moments of doubt or depression, so be kind to yourself.

If you’re entering one of these emotional phases whilst building your business or a new phase of your life, don’t freak out - know that your inner guidance system is working and it’s just trying to get your attention.

There are a number of tools you can use to get yourself rebalanced:

  1. Slow the Freight Train

    Negative thoughts and emotions are POWERFUL and have a tendency to get out of control VERY quickly. Stopping these feelings from taking over your mindset is not always easy once they’ve already gathered momentum. Meditation is a great way to slow your thoughts. Meditation is the practice of experiencing no thoughts, or at the very least, repeating in your mind’s eye a positive mantra like “I am calm” or “I am safe”.   2. Take Direction

    There’s a famous quote from Marcus Aurelius written in 170AD: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." In other words,… The obstacle is the way forwards

    Since time began, humans have experienced fear. Aurelius’s almost 2,000-year-old words refer to the philosophy that whatever is blocking us (fear, challenges, or resistance) is actually the way forwards!

    Start looking at fear as a tool the Universe uses to shows us the way forwards. Generally, whatever you’re afraid of doing, is exactly what you need to do to move to the next level. Never let fear hold you back. This includes pivoting your business or doing something different.

  3. Step Into the Magic

    When you decide to move up to the next level in your life or business, change will be involved. Humans don’t like change. We’re wired to stick to the familiar because in primitive times, that’s what kept us safe. But the simple fact is, if you want a different outcome, you need to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

    All of the magic in life happens outside of your comfort zone. When you’re levelling up you should expect change, and therefore expect uncomfortableness. Have you been levelling up lately? If the answer is yes, then feeling fear is perfectly natural and actually confirms you’re on the right path!

    If creating the life of your dreams was easy, everyone would have it! Keep your goals in sight and know that the ride to your destination WILL be bumpy. In fact, if it’s not, you’re probably on the wrong path.

  4. Ask Empowering Questions

    When people are in a money rut, they come to me with the same questions: “what am I doing wrong?”, or “why is this happening to me?”. These questions are usually backed up with “I’m just no good at this”.

    When you’re in fear, what kind of questions do you ask yourself?

    Our brains are simply software programs and they’re constantly looking for evidence to confirm our thoughts and beliefs. So, when we ask it disempowering questions (like the ones above), it quite naturally, looks for answers that confirm these negative beliefs hence perpetuating the downward spiral.

    Instead try asking empowering questions like “what do I need to let go of in order to make more money?”, “how can I choose to do things differently?”, or “how can I make money in different ways?”.

  5. Rampage!

    Get yourself a journal and write out as many positive mantras, visualisations, and goals as you can! Do it daily. Free write while asking your soul empowering questions and you WILL receive answers. Write it all in present tense and FEEL what it’s like when you’re living the life of your desires. Remember times when things went right for you. Know that it’s possible for things to go right for you again. This raises your vibration and is scientifically confirmed to attract positive synchronicities into your life.

  6. Gratitude

    Gratitude is always a great way to raise your vibration. Take stock of all of the good in your life today. Things are never as bad as they seem. There’s always someone with less than you. Give thanks for what you have and you will amplify that.

  7. Let Go

    Who would you be without this fear, anxiety, or resentment? The future hasn't happened yet. If fear can affect your perspective so powerfully, imagine how powerful it’s opposite (positivity) can be! Consider the possibility that there is another outcome available to you.

The important thing to remember is that change brings opportunity and you only have to change your perspective to see that opportunity. There is just as much good in the world as there is dark. Choose which one you look for.
