5 Ways to Improve Your Financial Literacy (the Feminine Way)

When I mention I’m a Money Mentor for Women, the response is always the same

“Yes, I need this! I’m no good with money!”

It amazes me how many women feel this way and how they’re so open to claiming it. I can’t imagine men ever being so forthcoming about this - especially when it’s true for them.

So why are women so quick to declare we’re no good with money?

A lot of it has to do with the fact that as a society, money is new to women. For thousands of years we’ve been repressed financially, sexually, and emotionally. We didn’t grow up with wealthy self-sufficient female role models. The role models fed to us were of a woman who loved to spend on looking good and catching the right husband. Women of the ’80s who sought a high-end career were depicted as bitchy, harsh, and unfeminine. There’s wasn’t much in between.

Conversely, men have had centuries of practice managing, attracting, and creating wealth. Times are changing though. There are many options available to enhance our financial confidence and literacy.

Here are five ways to improve your financial literacy (created especially for women):

1. LOOK at Your Finances

80% of people are not good with money purely because they don't take the time to look at their finances. Why? Money is emotional. Find out what's triggering you - usually related to a childhood experience around money. Forgive whoever was involved and let it go. Your past is not your future. DECIDE that things are different now. I have plenty of free resources to help you find your financial starting position and let go of money blocks at www.loveluckwealth.com/resources.

2. Set Financial Goals

You're 42% more likely to reach your goal just by writing it down. Most people don't even let themselves think about meaningful goals for fear of being let down. This is a learned behavior - it therefore can be unlearned. Don't confuse your goals with your to-do list. Meaningful goals must be based on true desires that anchor you to the outcome and are a pleasure to follow through on. Get my free Goal Setting Guide HERE.

3. Work on Your Money Mindset

Our thoughts are powerful. If you constantly worry about not having enough money or engage in negative self-talk about your inability to save, that's exactly what you'll manifest. Notice negative thoughts about money and start replacing them with positive mantras. This is backed by science. Book a Money Session with me to jump-start your head.

4. Educate Yourself

Money's easier than you think. It's in the financial service industry's best interest to make you think it's hard otherwise you wouldn't need them! There are plenty of books, courses, and mentors available to teach you - I have an 8-week course named "Money is My Lover" where I help women transform their relationship with money from one of stress and overwhelm to one where money is always there for them.

5. Start Before You're Ready!

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is NOW. You can start with as little as $100. Regular saving and investing over time builds wealth surprisingly fast. Learn how to put your money to work for you so it compounds and makes money from money while you sleep. I teach this in my 8-week Money Course (50% off for the month of December).
